Effects of social media and globalization on HR

The things around us are quickly changing and these are posing serous challenges to businesses as they have to keep up their pace with those changes. This fact seems more applicable in case of recruiters.

From the use of social media to recruitment software in the HR process, recruitment is also like an industry like any other business. The highly charged times that we are facing currently and the economy existing in a state of flux, this fact certainly holds true.

One of the latest trends that is experiencing some growth in the HR Department is the use of applicant tracking system as a tool. The old ways of sorting though paper resumes is all but behind us. With the ease and simplicity afforded by employment software, there is a larger central database to sort through and finding those best suited for the positions in the company.

Aforementioned, the growth of social media and other online tools has played a little influence on how to transcend business in our own infrastructure and outside that. When big companies are using facebook as a serious tool for advertising positions with their structures, it becomes evident that social media has clicked on the notion where twitter, myspace, facebook, you tube, et al become so integral that their trivialities become questionable. It is not possible to look at these social media sites as just playthings used by teenagers and employees in their spare times, but there is bigger picture that these can be a part of. Communication is a fundamental underpinning to any society and social media is a valid tool for communication.
